I have decided to wind down evaluations and focus on therapy more. This means I should have more therapy spots for children, adolescents, and adults. If things change, I will update this page. If you are having trouble finding someone to conduct an evaluation, feel free to call me and I can recommend someone!
Psychological evaluations help clarify diagnosis as well as relevant strengths and weaknesses. More importantly, testing makes recommendations for how to help a person succeed at home, in school, and in the community. Cognitive tests help evaluate language abilities, visual spatial skills, short-term (or working) memory and processing speed. Achievement tests evaluates academic skills including reading, writing and mathematics. Testing can also evaluate sustained attention, social communication skills, emotional/behavioral concerns and adaptive functioning (daily living skills).
Evaluations start with an intake. This is a meeting to discuss your concerns. This is also a chance for us to discuss the testing process and help set expectations for how you might use the evaluation once it has been completed. After the intake, I will conduct testing sessions. We will end with a conference which will review the testing data, as well as diagnoses and recommendations. The written report will be delivered approximately 2-3 weeks after the parent conference.
Psychological or Psychological-Educational evaluations can evaluate concerns regarding Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, learning disorders (such as Dyslexia or Dysgraphia) and other emotional or behavioral concerns such as anxiety and depression. The battery is customized to fit your child and testing time varies based on age and presenting concerns.
In addition to the testing described above, Autism Spectrum Disorders Evaluations add additional tests and questionnaires to focus on the possibility of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This includes social communication skills (such as eye contact and back-and-forth conversation) as well as restricted interests or repetitive behaviors.
