I work with children, adolescents and adults.
Therapy sessions can last from 45-50 minutes or from 55-60 minutes.
First and foremost I need to build rapport with you or your child and make sure it feels comfortable to talk and share important information. After that, we try to establish goals. For child sessions, I may spend some time checking in with a parent at the start or end of the session. We spend sessions talking about important events and also working towards our goals. For children, I often find it fun to end sessions with a quick game. This helps many children look forward to therapy and increases their motivation to participate. Adults sometimes enjoy casual conversation for a few minutes at the start or end of a session,
Yes, I offer both in person and virtual appointments. My scheduling software is called simple practice and virtual appointments are conducted through that platform. Intakes can be either virtual or in-person. Psychological testing must be done in person and cannot be conducted virtually. Therapy appointments can be either in-person or virtual. It is relatively easy so switch to a virtual appointment, so please contact me if you have a last minute change in plans and a virtual session would be easier. For virtual appointments, please be sure that you (or your child) are in a private location and you have a strong enough internet signal to support video streaming.
I do not provide "on-call" or emergency services. I check messages and voicemails during the work day from Monday to Friday, but this varies depending on how busy I am. If you cannot reach me or if you have a true emergency, please call 911.
Testing usually involves a 1-hour intake to discuss your concerns and a plan for testing. A full battery usually involves several hours of face-to-face time (split up into different appts as needed). Testing appointments are usually scheduled in the morning (when a person is at their best). After this, we have a 90 minute conference to discuss the results. Testing appointments are conducted in person. Intakes and conferences can be scheduled either virtually or in person.
Testing often helps to figure out how a person learns and how to help them. Testing includes a variety of tasks; some things may seem easy and others may be more difficult. No one gets everything correct; The most important thing is to try your best. Otherwise, get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast before coming to the appointment. For longer testing sessions (e.g., 3 hours), it may be helpful to bring a small snack for a break from testing.
